PROTOCOL OF THE THIRD MEETING OF THE EXPERTS’ GROUPS OF THE PLENIPOTENTIARY DELEGATIONS OF THE SIDES IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE NEGOTIATIONS PROCESS ON BROAD SCALE SETTLEMENT OF THE GEORGIAN-OSSETIAN CONFLICT

On May 31, 2000 in the village of Java took place the third meeting of the experts’ groups of the plenipotentiary delegations of the sides in the framework of the negotiations process on broad scale settlement of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict with mediation of the Russian Federation and participation of the representatives of the Republic North Ossetia-Alania and the OSCE (the list of participants is attached).

At the meeting was continued work on the draft international document on broad scale settlement of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict and were reviewed and agreed specific provisions in the context of possible organization of the next meeting of experts’ groups in Vienna in compliance with the Final Declaration of the Istanbul summit of the OSCE (November, 1999).

The main objective of the meeting in Vienna, in the opinion of the sides is maximum approximation of the positions on Interim Document.

The sides agreed the article 8 of the draft.

The South-Ossetian and the Georgian sides also agreed on the following:

1. To exchange till June 15 the written proposals on articles 4 and 5 of the draft and to introduce them to the OSCE, the Russian and the North-Ossetian sides.

2. To exchange till June 20 the written proposals on the first half of the article 12 and to agree own positions till the possible meeting in Vienna.

3. To exchange till June 20 the proposals on the second half of Article 13.

The participants of the third meeting of the experts’ groups adopted the statement for the press (attached).
