APPEAL OF THE SUPREME COUNCIL OF THE NORTH OSSETIAN SOVIET SOCIALIST AUTONOMOUS REPUBLIC to the Supreme Council of the Republic of Georgia

The Presidium of the North Ossetian Soviet socialist Autonomous Republic expresses its firm protest against unlawful Resolution of 11 December 1990 of the Supreme council of the Republic of Georgia on Abolishment the South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast, which was created in 1922.  This is unprecedented act of abuse of the rights of small nations at a parliamentary level, openly demonstrating negligence to the interests and wishes of the workers of South Ossetia.

The said decision runs counter to the rich humanistic traditions of Georgian people and to Your commitment to the democratic principles and respect of the rights of other nations.  It is hard to reach the genuine freedom through violation of others’ rights and freedoms.  Historical, cultural and genetic ties between Georgian and Ossetian peoples have been developed throughout the centuries.   Devastating and tragic consequences of any attempt to break these ties are evident.

We believe that the Supreme Council of the Republic of Georgia will show the political wisdom and abrogate the adopted decision.  This historical step will be duly estimated by our people.

Chairman of the Supreme Council of the North Ossetian ASSR A. Galazov
