APPEAL OF THE PRESIDIUM OF THE SUPREME COUNCIL OF NORTH OSSETIAN SSR TO THE SUPREME COUNCIL OF THE REPUBLIC OF GEORGIA

The Presidium of the North Ossetian SSR strongly condemns your protest of 1 January 1991 as the accusation addressed to the Supreme Council of the North Ossetian SSR regarding violation of the Constitutions of RSFSR and of the North Ossetian SSR in aggression against the Republic of Georgia has no ground and is the barefaced falsification.

The whole world is witnessing that not Ossetians attack the cities and villages of Georgia, but everyday Georgian boeviks are shelling the administrative center of South Ossetia city Tskhinvali.  They destroyed Znauri, burnt down about 100 of Ossetian villages.  Hundreds of people are killed, injured, missing or taken in hostage.  Tens of thousand of refugees from different regions of Georgia are currently in the different villages of Georgia.

Having adopted on 11 December 1990 unlawful decision on abolishing South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast the Supreme Council of Georgia and the Georgian Government started regulating the “Ossetian Problem” through the armed ways.  The tragic events in South Ossetia turned into unlawful and gross violation of human rights and genocide against Ossetians.

Several appeals to the Supreme Council and the presidium of Georgia on peaceful regulation of the conflict remain without positive results.

In such circumstances the Supreme Council of the North Ossetian SSR has to take decisive measures in order to prevent Ossetians from physical annihilation in Georgia.

Chairman of the Supreme Council of the North Ossetian SSR A. Galazov
